So far all the guests in the house have been very nice, interesting, responsible and very respectful of one another. I believe that they have all enjoyed their stay. The apartment is maintain daily to a high standard.
In the local area you will find everything you need for a great stay; there are 24 hour food shops, cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, some really nice traditional English pubs and the famous Deptford Market all within walking distance of the place. The place is also very close to Goldsmith University.

The apartment was fine other than the terrible smell the place had. The neighbourhood is not the nicest but we didn't have any troubles. Sidney was helpful and accurate with directions/info before our arrival
Very disappointed..I know it was cheap but it didn't look like the picture and the whole apartment was so shabby! The shower either scalded you or was freezing..no in between. The other guests were very noisy and used all our milk out of the communal fridge - although that's obviously not the owners fault - couldn't wait to get home for some sleep!
The room was in a good location for getting to the station and to the centre. It was as shown in the wimdu pictures. All was cleaned daily by the cleaner from Brazil. We were allowed to use everything in the kitchen and the wifi connection was fast.
After the last review we got a little scared to stay in this place. However, all was good. The room was as in the pictures and we found no smell. Everything was clean and quite new. Wifi was fast. The station and buses were close and the trip to the centre was about 20 minutes. Sidney was friendly and accommodating. We would recommend.
The appartement was very well located, 20-25 min by train from downtown. The room was very clean, and during the 7 nights we stayed there, it was very quite. While spending the most part of the day visiting London, this simple appartement suited all our needs.
I visited Sidneys' apartment in June 2014 with my daughter and her girlfriend (13 years). The address was easy to find from the very good description. The room was not ready when we arrived (after 10 a.m.) but it was cleaned when we got back later that day. The place was further away from the City than I thought, but I guess that's just due to my own lack of research ;-). The bus line 436 was convenient to use to get to the center. It took about 30 minutes and it was stopping at the nearby bus stop every 5-10 minutes. I find the apartment suitable for just spending the night and the price fits the standard.
Pobyt u Sidney’a był naszym pierwszym doświadczeniem z Wimdu. W Londynie byliśmy przez tydzień i było świetnie.
Mieszkanie jest położone w drugiej strefie. Najbliżej jest stacja kolejki naziemnej „New cross” (8-10 min piechotą do stacji). Dojazd do centrum zajmuje ok. 30 min.
Staying with Sidney was our first experience with Wimdu. In London we were for six days and it was a great time.
The flat is located in the second zone, close to the overground station ‘New cross’ (8-10 min walk to the station). Access to the city centre takes about 30 min. You may travel by overground (it goes every 30 min), but you have to change to the tube, or you can also take a direct bus (about 40 min; it goes every 5-10 min). The place is near a small range of shops and a pub, although the area do not look much safely and friendly.
Sidney is a very good host. He gave us precise directions and instructions about how to pick up and return the keys. It’s worth to read them carefully as they are very helpful and informative. Rather do not expect to see Sidney, as he does not live at this address. He visited us once during our stay. On the day of departure you can leave your luggage in the kitchen (not in the room).
The flat is on the first floor in an apartment block which is being renovated now, so the window is covered by scaffoldings and workers work from early morning. You can hear the trains passing too, but it did not bother us. The apartment has four rooms. Ours was much smaller than we judge by the photographs in this offer. In the room there are: bed (comfortable mattress), table, three chairs, hair dryer and a hanger (no wardrobe/closet). The bathroom, toilet and kitchen are shared with other guests. During our stay all the rooms were occupied, but there was no problem with using the bathroom or toilet. The kitchen is well equipped and clean. Bathroom and toilet are small. Appliances are rather used off and not very clean, but everything works and the water is warm. Each room can be locked with a separate key.
In conclusion, we think that this is a good place to stay for a few days, if your goal is to explore London and you use flat just to get some sleep.
To make sure you understand this rating correctly: This was original written in english.
Let's start at the start:
Room and apartment:
We found the place pretty easily. Sidneys description was precise and understandable.
Unfortunately Sidney was not there at the time, but he wrote an email pointing that out and left instructions how to get. - Two tips on the side for all travellers: Keep your emails with you and use international prefixes for ANY phone numbers you are using. Else it could be you would reach someone, but somehow they can not hear you.
The apartment was in an old building and it has seen a lot of residents. It was clean though and the room itself was okay.
It was NOT the one from the photo. We asked Sidney for the room advertised here and he said it would be available, but closer to the train (so louder) and that he had to change rooms, because of overbookings.
We decided to stay in the room nevertheless, because it was enough for the few days we were there.
The toilet and the bath (both in separate rooms, which is great until you need to wash your hands) were clean. The bath is very old and needs refurbishment though.
The shower...yeah..it was okay. But especially if you are a girl, you really need time for this thing. Not only, because you only get very cold or too hot water out of it. For this you need like five minutes of fine tuning and then the pressure is very low (girl with long hair specific problem).
Soap would be a nice to have thing there. Comming from the toilet standing there, thinking "...no soap?" was kind of irritating. I know it was no hotel, but anyway, it would have been nice.
Kitchen had all we needed. Place to stash our groceries, a cooker and even a washing machine. Dishes and cutlery also. A fridge for everyone to use and split by rooms (4 altogether) was also there.
The room itself was okay for a few days. We (2 persons) had enough place to turn around ^^
A closet would have been nice (not only, because there was one in the picture), but we had at least a clothes rail and managed to get along with it.
The train was not so much audible as it would have distracted our sleep at any time.
The construction workers (there is currently a scaffold all around the house. Modernization is going on ;)) started very late with the loud work and we even found sleep over the day.
The bed and the room as everything were very clean.
The internet was kind of good until others arrived. I researched that problem and it seems to have something to do with the ISP. I reported that issue to Sidney on our last day there and he said he will take care of it.
The train is really close. Let it be a five minute walk. The bus also arrives almost half the way to the train.
It has a really great connection to the city. The one thing you will see the most is the London Bridge Station if you are heading into the city ;P
BUT! you need to be very careful with relying on the train at night. You - at least we could not - can not reach the station at night after 00:00 o'clock. You need to take busses then and believe me: That can be an adventure.
Take a really good look at the time tables of those if plan going out partying or stuff that keeps you up late.
A little tip: New Cross Gate is NOT! very far (about 5 minute walk) from New Cross Station. We found it a lot easier to get a bus there than to New Cross Station or the other bus station that is only 15 meters from there, but closer to the apartment.
The apartment is really close (about three minute walk) to all kinds of shops or snack bars. You can get take away food on the whole street. About seven minutes from the apartment there are grocery stores. The 99 pence store has really ALL you need. But I recommend not to buy any meat there. It tastes kind of funny. But for drinks, snacks etc. it is great.
We were a little disappointed.
Wimdu misleadingly uses the phrase 'couchsurfing' which is not what this it offers. It offers sometimes pricing seemingly anonymous apartment (rooms) offered (sometimes) by private persons.
We wanted to stay with someone giving us some tips, someone we could maybe sit and breakfast with and dip into his/her British life for some days.
Also couchsurfing is for free ;P
But this is not by any means Sidneys fault. He gave us a pricing opportunity to stay in London close to the central city.
He talked to us, gave us some tips and had an open ear to all of our questions. He was always reachable when we needed him and reacted very promptly if there was a problem or anything else.
The shower, the internet and the other small issues mentioned above are not that bad if you are out of the apartment for the whole day and just want a place to sleep and freshen up. You also can avoid or at least compensate situations like coming home late with the bus by good preparation and/or mobile internet.
Thanks for the stay, Sidney. :)
Maybe we see each other again ;)
