I really enjoyed my stay. Room was spacious, comfortable and clean (might be a little bit noisy due to wooden floor above). Mornings you can have a walk (ca. 30min.) to nearest PATH station or just take a bus. I recommend to take Uber from Exchange Place PATH station (7usd) while coming back at night as neighborhood does not feel super safe after dusk. However I must highlight it that when it comes to price/quality ratio I give a very good note.
Where to start first . This place is very interesting in many ways but not in a possitive way. Yes , the place is close to Manhattan but paradoxically pretty difficult to get there . If you want to get there by public transportation , you need to change 3 times. From subway to path train and to lightrail or bus. Or you can also use the taxi (from Grove street it is around 7dollars + tips) In general if you want to get to the city it will cost you more than 50 min of travelling with public transportation. Area of this flat is as someone mentioned before veeeery sketchy even dangerous( after dark I will not recommend use of a public transportation to get to your address of staying , definitely taxi! ) We were even speaking to police officer who was paradoxically in charge of that district (Jersey city) and he warned us about this area, because of the drug violence – he literaly said this! We experienced some difficulties with the room also. There was a gap between the AC and window, therefore the second night came a little visitor(mouse). The gap was fixed just with the stiff paper. We cannot imagine how this room works in winter time, because it was relatively cold there. When we came into the appartment, there were no soap to wash hands with. We didn´t have any instructions, even the basics, how to get to appartment and so... Be aware of the american locks, mainly in this room, because you can easily get stuck in front of the room meanwhile your keys are inside of the room. Locks works here very differently from EU ones, so we recommend to take your keys with you even within the flat. When we were trying to contact Sylvia and discuss some matters about the appartment and surroundings, she promised she would come the next morning but she didn´t show up even contact us back. Consider your stay here.
We stayed for two weeks in this room.
The area at first, seemed a bit sketchy but after talking to someone who's been living there for over 3 month, everything was great.
Nothing happened to us (don't judge the neighborhood just by the looks :) ).
The room and the house in general are really cool and you have everything you need (bathroom, nice kitchen, living room, AC).
Also going to the city is pretty easy, it takes you about 25min with the LightRail and the PATH from Exchange Place.
I would totally recommend it to everyone who is looking for a affordable place to stay while doing a NYC trip.
very nice apartment - very friendly and reliable host - costs reasonable - absolutely recommendable!
It's just been a pleasure to stay there...
I recommend to use google.maps for getting out and in house, just click the public transportation button and you'll get a choice of all bus stations around the door. Bus connections are quite reliable...
Nice apartment very quiet but wayyyy to far to get back and forth to the City the train stop running at 10 so we where stuck until 5 am.
Sylwia was a great host, everthing as described in the offer and always there if you had questions concering the appartment or itineraries.
We arrived in Manhattan by coach and it required three different public transports (Metro, PATH and Light rail system) to get to the house. We had let know in advance when we'd arrive but she was out, meaning we had to wait 40 minutes outside with our bags - we tried calling but she didn't answer. When she arrived we were hurriedly shown to our room and within 5 minutes she left; we didn't see her again.
Toilet seat was broken, there was no toilet roll (another guest asked her about this and was told to buy it himself) and there were not enough bowls or cups for the number of people staying.
Most significantly it took at best an hour to get to down-town Manhattan, and cost about 10$ each way. Factor this in when comparing here with a location in, say, Queens, which is within the Metro boundary - for which you can purchase a 7-day pass for about 29$.
The place on the whole was not TOO bad for the money in terms of cleanliness and facility (free WiFi), but things like having to go get your own toilet roll and simply her lack of presence made it not very homely and is not somewhere that can be recommended for someone sight-seeing New York or who otherwise needs to be near it.
Very nice, clean and comfortable room not far from Manhattan. But you need 3 different public transport services (so tickets) to get to Manhattan.
Very nice place to stay, clean, big, quiet, cheap, free internet. The only thing is the trip between the path and the house. I thought it was close enought to get there by foot but it's too far. So in the morning you have to take the bus, every 20 minutes on the week and 45 in the week end, and on the way back, after 9 PM you have to pick up a taxi. (7 dollars)
So it's a good place to stay, the neighborhood is very kind (try the breakfeast in the corner of community pawn and woodward) but be aware of the time to reach the place.
