Rustic House Close to the Sea
|住所||Rua do Padre Sacramento, 2565 Matacães, ポルトガル|
This charming house is traditional and composed in two parts, one where all the bedrooms were and the second where the wine was made. It has a unique rustic and curious décor, making your visit to Portugal an unforgettable moment.
This house has 3 bedrooms, two living room , one kitchen with a dining corner, one bathroom; and two exterior areas, one winter garden and one patio with a little swimming pool.
All the house was built on a rock and inside you can see some parts of it sculpted in to walls and stairs. The wooden floor, the wood ceiling beams and the rough mezzanine gives a rustic wonderful style to this perfect house.
Interesting house in a little village , close to everything ,3 kms from the main city Torres Vedras, between hills and see , nearby you will find pedestrian circuit . You are at 20 kms from the fantastic city medieval of Obidos , 45 kms of Lisbon and 15kms from the beautiful beach of Santa Rita.

House with a very appealing architecture, based on a fusion of traditional and experimental designs. The pool, although small, fits the need for a cool dip in a sunny summer afternoon. The house is somewhat moist what is normal around the region but which makes it not very suitable for someone with allergies. The Host was always nice and thoughtful. Excellent place to have a rest if you enjoy the rustic countryside living.
Oh, this is difficult…the house is both a wonder and a nightmare. Let's start with the wonders.
The house is truly unique; rebuild with an artistic sense for decorating and an almost surrealistic remodelling (rebuilding) of an old house; the floors are mounted into one big open room; basically build with a rock as one part of the construction. The decoration is very original, artistic and with a lot of taste (although maybe not for everybody) - the funitures are elegant - old but chosen with taste. On top of the house there is a terrace and a (very) small pool.
So what's not to like?
Unfortunately quite a lot…
The construction of the house against the rock (being a former wine cellar I believe) creates a _very_ humid and damp environment. True, my son and I are asthmatics (though not very much and usually quite under control), but even the two non-asthmatics in our family complained about breathing difficulties immediately upon arrival; our noses were stuffed and our eyes were irritated as well. The bed linings (and beds) were damp and one room was just plain unusable.
The toilet was broken; the handle fell of every time we used it, and the water ran like Niagara Falls…non stop. The bathroom is situated in the middle of the house, so the most logical passageway is through the bathroom. The door to the toilet doesn't close completely even when locked (leaving a gap of 2-4 cm).
The bath is open in the bathroom and water flows into the next room every time someone is taking a shower.
Within a few hours we realized that we could not possibly stay in the house and took our leave after sleeping there one night (as we had arrived late and had nowhere to go – otherwise we had left immediately). The next morning we sneezing and coughing, returned the keys to the next door bar, and made for Lisbon where we booked a traditional hotel.
We promptly contacted both the owner (who, it should be said, seems like a very nice person) and of course Wimdu and explained our experience.
No refund was made - not even in part.
I guess that is he name of the game when using services like Wimdu, but it most definitely ensured that we are going for traditional hotels and the like in the future.
I cannot imagine any of my colleagues or friends who would accept a house like this for their holidays. And I am truly really sorry to say so, for I have a lot of sympathy for both the hose and the owner.

Great place close to everything so yo u can go Walking to everywhere... It is a Good place yo Stay. There is just one thing that for the first moment can be funny but after that its not son fun... there is no lights on the stairs...
Richard is an amazing host. We enjoyed our stay in Lisbon. The apartment has everything that you need and it's location is very good. It is right in the historical center of the city and you won't need much of a public transport there. If we go another time in Lisbon we'll definitely book Richard's apartment.
Old village was populated mostly by UK citizens. Lovely place to explore the Algarve. Not easy to always get a sunbed at the 3 pools, because people occupied the sunbeds from the morning with towels. Old village is a charming ,secure and mosquito free area. Very well maintained area. The apartment was a little "tired" all over, but everything was in working condition. Communication with Richard before stay was fine.
My experience with Richard was satisfactory in the sense that he responded to all my questions and the keys were where he said they would be. The apartment is in an AMAZING location and is not without charm, and in this sense we are very satisfied. HOWEVER, it is in an advanced state of disrepair, everything is old, marked, deteriorated, uncared for, musty, even a bit gross. It is obvious that he does not put any care or special interest in keeping it up and it is QUITE dirty (toilet, kitchen, floors, dust). I think the linen was clean, but it was so old, spotted, unpressed, and musty that it felt dirty. Everything in the kitchen was quite dirty, even disgusting (we took photos). This apartment needs a good, deep clean, fresh paint, new linens, and some renewed decoration. Just some TLC!
We stayed four nights at different times at his apartment. We were greeted by Elvira a wonderful neighbor she gave us the keys and towels. Se doesn't speak English, but with some Portuguese
and Spanish we managed. We did not meet Rick. The place is very nice and comfy also very clean. To go down town you have to walk for about 3 blocks to take the tram which cost €2.85 if you are two it's more convenient to take a taxi which costs €5.00. Lovely vacation , thanks very much.
We stayed to Richard's house from the 3rd to 7th of June.
The house is well located to Bairro Alto, one of the central place of the night life in Lisbon. The house was ok, clean and with the basic things available.
Richard was really nice to give us the opportunity to do the late check-in and the late check-out and to leave the luggage in his house.
There was a small supermarket just downstairs of the building if you need to buy water, paper or some food.
There were several restaurants and locals around.
There were just a couple of things could be improved: the sofa-bed wasn't so easy to open and close it and it wasn't so comfortable; there wasn't the light outside of the main door, so we had to use our mobile flashlight to see the lock of the door.
Then the apartment is at the last floor of a building with three floors without lift. But overall our staying was nice and we had a pleasure to live there for a couple of days.
