So far all the guests in the flat have been very nice, interesting, responsible and very respectful of one another. I believe that they have all enjoyed their stay. The apartment is maintain daily to a high standard.
The flat is about 400 meters from New Cross Station, which gives you access to the Overground and the mainline railway (Note: the Overground is connected to the tube/underground - it just runs over ground - all tickets are valid). Deptford Bridge Station is even closer. From here the DLR (Docklands Light Railway) will take you to Greenwhich and Canary Wharf.
There are also numerous buses, which pass New Cross Road and go straight to central London, including several night buses, so you can always get home no matter what time of night! You can be in Trafalgar Square (by train) in just 15 minutes. The vibrant and eclectic area of Shoreditch is also just 15 minutes on the Overground. The location is ideal for any tourist or person working in central London!
In the local area you will find everything you need for a great stay; there are 24 hour food shops, cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, bars and the famous Deptford Market all within walking distance of the flat. The flat is very close to Goldsmith University campus, so could be an ideal base if you are visiting the university for a conference.
The apartment is really convenient if you are visiting the Olympic games this summer. It is just 10 minutes by bus to Greenwich were a number of events are taking place, and just 20 minutes to the stadium at Stratford, via the Overground and Jubilee Line.

We had a great time at Sidney's place. It is looks exactly as discribed. Clean and airy, well equipped, close enough to the tube station and to several bus routes.
Moreover, we spent a long time searching for an apartment and must point out that it was the best offer on price/quality criteria.
Good and bad things about the room.
Firstly - the room itself is basic but everything you need - 2 twin beds, enough space, very fast internet access which was excellent. The kitchen had everything you needed - but was small and shared with other people - which was fine. The bathroom was clean - a cleaner came every day to take out the rubbish.
Cons about the room - the apartment is in "Lewisham Estates" - I am fairly sure it used to be (and maybe still is) housing estates. The neighbourhood was okay... but we could often hear people yelling at each other having fights and also people having sex. The walls were thin.
I had emailed Sidney 3 days before our arrival confirming he would be there to meet us. He didn't reply until 3am the morning we arrived (we were arriving from Australia at 10am) with instructions on how to get into the apartment. So when we got there, found the apartment in this old weird building, he wasn't there, I didn't have the email as we had been flying and didn't have internet access before we got there, and the only people there were some Spanish girls who were staying in another room in the apartment next door. Sidney didn't answer texts or phone calls. Eventually we found another resident who helped us but I think it was quite unsatisfactory that this was done so badly. While we stayed 3 girls stayed in another room in the apartment and they said exactly the same thing happened to them.
Sidney has a lot of rooms in the same building which he rents out to foreigners - I think he should manage them a little bit better because this is effectively his job...
Overall, the room is what it is - basic, but clean, it's what you need and was a very good price. I don't know that I would stay there again though. It's "10 minutes to London Bridge" on the overground which is quite expensive (up to 5 pounds per trip depending on the time of day) which means that what you save for the room you spend a bit of on transport anyway. It's pretty much hostel type accommodation so you might be better off going with a hostel closer to the city for slightly more money.
The flat was clean and in good condition, stocked with plenty of bedding/towels, all the kitchen essentials and had good wi-fi connection. It is peaceful and gets lots of light. The location was good: Just 10 minutes from the nearest tube station. Sidney was an excellent host - he gave us really detailed instructions and met us at the property when we arrived.
1) Very, very noisy
The New Cross Road has lots of traffic all night and all day.
You have sirens from ambulance all night.
Bus Garage from London Traffic is around the corner.
There is no difference in noise reduction between open and closed window (old single glass windows)
2) "Shared bathroom" is mentioned in the text, but I didn't read it carefully enough.
This means, there is one "bathroom" (toilet and 1 basin) for the whole floor (5 frooms, maybe 15 persons or more)
I took some fotos to document this, but wimdu had no interest to publish them.
We had a lovely stay in Sidney's apartment. It was a decent size and we'd say that it's great for families or groups of friends. Everything was comfortable and as in the wimdu pictures. The benefits also included wifi and free parking. The nearest tube station is about five minutes away and getting into the centre is relatively easy.
Sidney was really helpful and gave us a good orientation. He let us check in early to the apartment and also leave our bags on the last day. This was really convenient. Compared to the price of a hotel, this option was really cheap. We recommend this place for anyone wanting a short break in London.
After reading the last review we actually became a little concerned. However, Sidney did everything he could to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. He even met us early in the morning to drive us back to the airport. The room itself is simple, but large. It is on the front side of the street, so if you are sensitive to noise, you may need earplugs. We were ok without. Sidney put the storage heater on while we were in the room and this made the temperature very nice. The rest of the property is large, with a decent size kitchen that you can use and separate toilet and bathroom. There are buses that go to the centre right outside the property and the station is two minutes away. From the station you can get a mainline train to London Bridge, which literally takes five minutes station to station.
Thanks again Sidney for all your kindness. We will come back here.
thx for the positive comment, but actually we regard the room as far to small for 3 persons. Anyway the room is quite economic, clean and save. For Two ok but defiantly not for the three of us.
A suite for the (deaf) President of cockroaches!
First of all this room IS NOT IN LONDON BRIDGE. This is a BIG LIE. The area is called New Cross and it is a dodgy, dangerous, dirty and very noisy area of London. What makes this place even more dangerous is the fact that the keys to enter the building and flat are always left in the post box slot right outside of the house for anybody who knows (or has seen) that they are there. There is an unidentified number of disrespectful people living and moving in and out of the flat day and night. The first night we were there, a guy left in the middle of the night (after slamming his room door and talking on his phone like it is daytime) without bothering to close the main door of the flat, so basically woke up and found the front door wide open for everybody to help themselves in the flat! Couple that with the fact that the keys for the building are constantly in a public space and you can see the potential for disaster. I was living for 10 years in London and have lived in very ugly places. This room / flat is a definite champion.
The president of the cockroaches must be deaf because the presidential suite is by far the most noisy room of this horrible flat. The building is located on one of the busiest roads in London leading to the port for France, so you can get the picture. I am not even bothering mentioning the non-stop buses, ambulances and police sirens throughout all night and day. It is humanly impossible to sleep. Since the windows are from the 50s, don’t expect them to reduce the noise at all – at times I really thought that we had a window open, but no, they were all closed. The first 2 nights it was really cold in the room and the flat and we only found comfort under the duvet; the president of cockroaches does not feel any cold.
We brought our own bedsheets and towel because we read that one reviewer came in and Sidney had left the bedsheets of another guest. Also, Sidney in his welcome email lets you know that you may actually have to sleep in dirty bedsheets – if there is no time to change them netwen guests. Having our own stuff proved to be a great thing - we even used owr own duvet cover. Although our bedsheets looked clean, they had big oil marks all over which we found quite disgusting. Also there was no towel. However, I have to say that the common areas and the room were clean. The toilet was taken care of on a daily basis, which is much appreciated given the number of people who use it.
Since there are 5 rooms in the flat and some of them can accommodate up to 4 people, you may have to share the TINY shower and toilet with up to 8-10 people at a time. In our case it must have been 6-7, not sure. Don’t bother asking how long you have to queue and hold your pie (and other larger items) in the morning and you must be crazy if you expect to be able to have anything near a normal shower after 4-5 people have done so before you. So, the bottom-line is that if you are a champion in holding your pie indefinitely, remaining sleepless or sleep regardless of what happens around you, have a 30 second shower and risk having dodgy strangers in the night in your room / flat, then this is the flat for you. If you are the deaf president of the cockroaches, it is even better!
There are awful lots of things wrong with my stay. To start with, the room was half ready, no pillows. At a time, 8 people were sharing 1 toilet and bathroom and later 10 people. The heater in the toilet was very filthy. There was renovation going on around the property which disturbed our sleep (my sisters and I). Never ever going back.
Clean and confortable. Near the overground.
