THE LOCAL AREA
A microcosm of London's shifting ethnic patterns, the area around Brick Lane in East London was once associated with poor slums and the scene of the crime for the Jack the Ripper murders. Whilst the notorious pub Ten Bells still stands, the area itself is now extremely popular with London’s edgy and artistic crowd, featuring galleries, restaurants, markets and festivals throughout the year.
The Old Truman Brewery at 91 Brick Lane houses a vibrant market where up-and-coming designers set up shop every Sunday selling a unique variety of clothes, handbags and jewellery. There are also vintage clothing stores and chic boutiques dotted around the area.
As a hub of London's Bangladeshi community, Brick Lane has always been famed for its many authentic curry restaurants. It now also has a reputation for its warehouse art exhibitions and trendy clubs and bars. So, before your East London experience is complete, be sure to head to the Vibe Bars beer garden or 93 Feet East (150 Brick Lane) which has become an East End institution well known for its eclectic mix of live music and intimate atmosphere.
London's oldest market, Spitalfields is now a seven-days-a-week destination. Spitalfields markets, once a Sunday-only mainstay, are open every day. Resplendent under a Fosters & Partners-designed glass canopy, Spitalfields Traders Market and shops offer cutting edge fashion and interiors, original artworks and as well as food.
Spitalfields market is surrounded by independent shops, cafes, bars and awarding winning restaurants like Canteen, Galvin La Chapell and Giraffe.
COLUMBIA STREET FLOWER MARKET
For an authentic East London experience, nothing comes close to Columbia Road market on a Sunday morning. Jam packed with the best blooms in the capital, it’s a lively and pretty noisy affair (and not for those who prefer peace and quiet on a Sunday), with salt-of-the-earth Eastender types, shouting at the top of their lungs and all trying to outdo one another's patter.
During the rest of the week you can dine and shop at the rest of the quaint little restaurants and boutiques.
THIS IS THE BEST PLACE TO BE IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE LONDON AT ITS BEST!!!
Nice stay! Near from the metro, from the city, from brick lane!!
The room has tv,wifi, a small table so we could have our breakfast in the room, and coffee cereals in the kitchen.
We were in the inside room that was more quiet than those on the main street, but take your hearing protectors if noises usually disturbs you.
Take also an adapter for your phone if you re not from england!
We ll come back here next time in london!
Thank you very much Kaz!
It is a very nice and calm room with good connection to the tube. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back.
Actually an excellent place near to downtown
I would be there if i need to return to london
Great quality/price relationship!! The apartment is in the East of London (Sector 2) but it has very good connections with the center of the town by underground (Stepney Green) and bus (lines 25 to Oxford Street and 205 to Paddington). It is also well connected via nocturnal bus (N205) with Liverpool Street to take the Airport Bus to London Stansted Airport. The room was large and clean and the bathroom and the kitchen fulfill all the requirements for a weekend stage. The only concern is some noise at night because the sirens of ambulances and police cars. We also liked the absence of carpeted floor in bath and rooms (it has wooden floor). I'm sure that I will repeat!!
It was a great experience, an easy access to all places of central London. Thank you Kaz for your hospitality
Centrally located in quiet area. Apartment is clean. The other guests were quite loud and walls are thin, but ok value for the area.
Not bad, difficult to find, lot of brightness in the room and the bath doesn't work so propperly, the water is stremely hot, good situation, the hood is quiet.
The room we stayed in was nice and lookes pretty much like the pictures.
We were especially thrilled by having a nice shower in our room.
The place was also very conveniently located.
The downsides were:
The breakfast, almost no milk and the coffee was quite bad.
The floors, it felt like the entire house was wobling when you were walking around and this also meant you heard every movement in the house, both from downstairs and upstairs (we stayed in room 2, one floor up).
The noise, the windows did not drown out much of the noise coming from the backyard, and the neighbours on each side were quite noisy. One side with children playing and the other with adults seeming to eat in the backyard with lots of friends every night. We were also disturbed by the cleaningladies who came by around 10-12 and would chatter in the kitchen long after they were done.
Good room and building.
Nice place to stay in London, very near to the underground station.
the house was quite clean and the other guests were really kind.
it was simply perfect, the location, the room, the apartment... 100% advisable for a short trip!!
