The price-performance ratio is extremely fair !!! You pay $ 20 per person or less and do not anticipate $ 250 services. It is a private basement house with all the necessary equipments and they function without a shadow of a doubt. Vanessa & Co were really warm-hearted, decent, professional, and helpful. Highly recommend for people with joy of life.
The room was very nice and Vanessa helped us with the parking system and the washing of our clothes.
The place was very quiet during the night.
I recommend Vanessa's place.
The appartment in a souterrain was nice and cool in june, because it was hot outside. But because it is a souterrain it is pretty dark and there is no daylight inside. We were not able to tell what kind of wheather it was outside.
We did sleep very well because of the darkness.
The matrass sleeps very well, better than any other hotelbed. It is even suitable for someone with backpain (like me, I slept very well).
There are cooking facilities, but only a 2-pits cooker which cooks very slowly. We missed a watercooker, therefore we used the coffee machine to heat the water.
There was also a microwave which functions very good.
Bathroom facilities were pleasant. Showering was very pleasant, good temperature and nice beam.
There is a TV in the bedroom but it doesn't work.
The whole appartment was not too clean, a bit dusty overall but not smelly or disgusting.
The hostess has 2 little children, sometimes you hear them run upstairs.
The neighbourhood is full with small shops of all kinds, and it is in the Spanish part of the Bronx. We never felt uncomfortable even though we were the only 2 white ladies around.
There is a subwaystation very close to the appartment which takes you in 30 minutes to downtown Manhattan.
The appartment is also very close to the Bronx Zoo and the Botanical Gardens.
This appartment is very well priced and Vanessa is always pleased to help you.
It's probably one of the cheapest accomodations in New York, it's true. If you don't have high expectations (or any kind of expectations at all) this basement can be OK for you. But if you want to enjoy not just the city but the place where you stay as well, it's better to pay a little bit more, because it's really the lowest quality you can imagine. You can hear everything from upstairs (children's crying and running all the time), from the street (loud music, yelling) and from the neighborhood (loud TV). The people on the streets weren't scary or dangerous at all, they have their own world, they completely ignore you, have no fear.
The WIFI, the working hair dryer and the subway stations at the corner of the street were the positiv things.
My son and I just had nine wonderful days staying with Vanessa and her lovely family. This has been the most wonderful experience. They are such a friendly and welcoming family. Always absolutely helpful. Before we flew to NY, Vanessa mailed me the all data and a link, so that we could take the metro straight up to 183th stedet. And I hadn't even afsked for it. This was a huge help.
We were invited to join her, her and frinds to watch THE boxingmatch of the year in their back garden. Do I need to say how thrilled we were ........
Yesterday they gave us a lift downtown, as theycthemselves were drivning to Brooklyn, and saw that we were heading for the trainstation ;-)
The house is 3 minutes from the trainstation. The line 4 brings you from there straight down along the left site of Central Park, all the downtown. If you walk up to University Ave, 4 minutes from the house, you can take a bus straight info Harlem.
We would recommend Vanessa and her family to everyone Anytime <3
Its the second trip to one of Vaness'as appartment, it was a pleasure. Very clean, the bed is very confortable, we asked for more sheets because we were cold and they gave it to us very quickly. We dont put 5 stars because of the neighborhood but its not the host's fault. We will come back every year if its possible. We felt at home!
The apartment was clean, spacious, and quiet. Occasionally there is some noise overhead and there is little natural light but having a private apartment at this price in near Manhattan rare and amazing! Vanessa was a great hostess who did everything to accommodate me. It is worth the long subway ride (I was working in Lincoln Center) and I would definitely stay here again.
Everything was very nice. Nothing to complain about but one little thing: the floor is very cold in winter but everything else was great. Nice hosts, good location and a lot of space.
The rooms we stayed in were in the basement of the house which meant a lack of sunlight but in the city that never sleeps it was no big issue for us. The area was safe, there was free parking in the street and only a very short walking distance to the next subway station. All in all we had a wonderful time in NYC.
We spend 4 days at this place. Unfortunately we didn't meet Vanessa, because we came always too late or slept too long:) But her lovely mother helped us, when we needed. Our room (with a small window) was located at basement, there were also a little kitchen with necessary supplies, fridge, washer, dryer and bathroom. It's a nice space to stay while visiting NY, close to subway (5 min. to walk) and to Manhattan (30 min. with train 4)!
